#241 Crap of the Week.... Norfolk Nog

I’ve never done an actual alcoholic drink as Crap of the Week, but this is so biblically awful that I couldn’t stop myself.  I’m all for new industries coming in and I’d love English Whisky to do well.  But the English Whisky Company’s Norfolk Nog (27% cream liqueur made with raw spirit and cream) is so horrific.  It smells and tastes as if someone had mixed cheap supermarket own label vodka and slightly off cream together with a scoop of vanilla ice cream - the sort that has never seen fresh milk or cream and costs a pound for a two litre tub.  The palate is sickly sweet, with a horrific alcohol burn and more of the off cream and ice cream flavours.  I never thought I’d say this but “God Bless Baileys”.

It costs £18 and you can buy it from The English Whisky Company's website

Just stumbled accross your site whilst googling this drink and was rather amazed at your comments. Norfolk Nog happens to be one of the St George's Distillary's most popular products other than their whiskey. I have tasted it whilst on a tour of the distillary with the owner and I have also drunk this at home with friends. It is not for the fans of big name irish cream liqueurs as it is not sickly sweet and cloying, but fresh clean and with a bit of a kick at the end. To liken it to cheap supermarket vodka mixed with slightly off cream and dairy free vanilla ice-cream shows ignorance, a lack of taste and a lack of respect for an extremely good and popular product.
Dear Mr Fishman

Thanks for your comment, even if it was a little bit offensive. I'm prepared to agree to disagree on this one. As is so often when someone gets passionate about a particular product - as you obviously are about Norfolk Nog - they take negative criticism as a personal offence and lash out at the critic. To call me ignorant, with a lack of taste and a lack of respect for a product is ignorant on your part, and downright offensive as you know nothing about me.

We all like different things, and as an exceptionally experienced taster, retailer and blogger, if I think something positive or negative, I pass comment. It is JUST MY OPINION, not to be taken has fact. I have an opinion that you are a rude, short sighted fool, but I am sure your wife or children like you so I'm not going to start calling you names.

Tolerance dear reader and accepting that not everyone agrees with you is the first way to being a more pleasant person, and when they don't - don't call them names.
