Cynar - an Italian drink that is made with artichokes and tastes like you are sucking a copper penny. It was introduced in the early 1950's, became successful in the following decade thanks to a series of adverts and it occupies a dusty shelf in off licences owned by Italians. It is drunk as both and aperitif and digestif but what else can you do with it to make it a bit more interesting?
